Singer Quach Thanh Danh Sings from Mui Ne

15.03.05 Popular Vietnamese singer Quach Thanh Danh is the latest singer to make use of the beautiful scenery around Mui Ne and the White Sand Dunes for his recently released video "Tinh Chia Doi." Many singers have taken advantage of the area's beautiful landscapes for their videos and films, including Lam Truong, Dan Truong, Ho Ngoc Ha and My Linh. QTD's new album, "Trai Tim Lanh Gia" (Vol 3) ranges from the comedic to serious, but all very romantic. Although a native of Saigon, QTD enjoys tremendous popularity in Phan Thiet as well as across the country. Quach Thanh Danh's albums (3 CDs and 2 VCDs) are available at most music stores around the country and available to order in North America through Kim Loi Studio (except for his little-known debut CD, which is now out-of-print).

02.08.05 Nhac Sao Dem (Evening Star Music) is making its way around Vietnam again over the next 2 months, and stopped at Phan Thiet last night; playing to a full house. The traveling music troop showcases many new young singers who travel the countryside, often backed up by their more famous collegues.

Last night Ngoc Song, Quang Vinh (pictured right), Phuong Thanh and Lam Chi Kanh appeared with the group. Ngoc Song (and to a lesser extent Lam Chi Kanh) is a favorite of country folks for a variety of reasons--including his very outgoing personality and ability to engage the audience, his great voice, and excellent talent for singing both pop and country songs. The ability to sing more traditional vietnamese country music is a must if a singer wishes to gain any kind of popularity outside the larger cities.

One of the bright shining stars of Nhac Sao Dem was Hip Hop singer An Anh Dung (pictured left). This kid is going places. At the tender age of 18 he posesses the talent and enthusiasm to overtake some of the best hip hop artists in Vietnam. Not only does he have an outstanding voice, but he has cool moves too. Keep an eye on him and be sure to catch him when Nhac Sao Dem comes to your town.

Shows in Phan Thiet run once or twice a month. Unfortunately advertising is very last minute. Keep an eye on telephone poles and fences for posters; vans with loadspeakers, or drive by the performance center to check for banners announcing the next concert, usually with 24-48 hours of the initial announcement.

Victoria Hotels and Resorts Celebrate 10 Years

12.06.05 Victoria Hotels and Resorts is celebrating 10 years in Vietnam, and doing it in style with a concert tour across South Vietnam. The performers include Vietnam's super diva, Thanh Lam and girl band Trio 666. Victoria has also reached across the globe to bring in France's funk/rock band La Souris Deglinguee.

The tour kicked off in Phan Thiet City at Ngoai Troi Performance Center. Victoria Resort in neighboring Mui Ne is one of the most well-known and luxurious hotels at the beach. Despite rain all day and much of the evening, crowds still poured in at 8pm to hear and see the extravaganza. Trio 666 opened the evening with a lively performance that lead them throughout the entire arena, dancing with fans. Thanh Lam followed and lived up to her legend. Her powerful voice captivated the audience with her sophisticated style and versatility. La Souris Deglinguee kept the audience rocking till after 11 pm.

Sponsored by HSBC, "The World's Local Bank" and Saigon Concert, the tour continued to Saigon last night at the Hoa Binh Performance Center. There will be two more engagements as follows:

New Film Shot on Location in Mui Ne,
Phan Thiet and Khe Ga

30.05.05 39Degrees of Love is a story about two students, played by singer-supermodel Ho Ngoc Ha (Trang) and actor-model Binh Minh (Long), who fall in Love. Long is chased by a painful past-losing his former love in a car accident, and other secrets that arise in the film, including a jealous admirer. Eventually these secrets jeopardize the very life of Trang.

The film was shot on location in Saigon, Khe Ga lighthouse, the Red Canyon near Hon Rom, Mui Ne Village and Phan Thiet. The opening Scene starts at the light house island at Khe Ga, which is about a 1 hr drive south from Mui Ne. The last half of the movie is filmed all over Phan Thiet and Mui Ne Village, winding through many alleys, side streets and all over the shore and harbor.
